Paraná Pirate Children's Book

An illustrated adventure for kids aged 6–11 that teaches them how to live with a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
The book starts with a letter from a grandfather the young pirate never got to meet. That letter sends him sailing down the Paraná River through Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay, making new friends in each city and learning the eight habits that help us thrive:
-
Connecting with nature
-
Getting a good night of sleep
-
Loving family and friends
-
Cooking nutritious food
-
Staying calm with deep breathing
-
Movement and play
-
Positive thinking
-
Living with passion
After writing Eudaimonia Habits for adults, I wanted a way to share the same ideas with young readers, through a story fun enough that they’d ask to hear again.
The book is personal for me. My grandpa Ed, on my dad’s side, passed away before I was born, so I never got to meet him. Imagining a letter from him that sent me on an adventure was a nice way for me to honor the grandpa I never knew.
The pirate’s route also mirrors my own 2023 trip from Brazil to Paraguay to Argentina to Uruguay. Every city in the book is a place I’ve been to and learned something from.
Give the book to a child or grandchild, a niece or nephew, or a young friend. Or order copies in bulk for your local elementary school, library, house of worship, community center, or family reunion.
A story read together at bedtime has a way of sticking. This one was written to plant healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
